Sweating is the body’s natural way of cooling down, and its amount varies individually. Excessive sweating, a condition named hyperhidrosis, is uncontrollable sweating without an external cause (such as physical exertion, anxiety, illness). The condition is common and can affect all parts of the body, but is most commonly seen in areas such as the armpits, legs, arms, groin or face. The exact causes of this condition are not clear, but it is likely to be due to overactive sweat glands. It may also be caused by an overactive sympathetic nervous system, or be hereditary.
