Loose skin is usually described as a not defined contour and sagging of the skin in the zones of the face and body caused by loss in the natural elasticity of the skin. It is a common problem in the top part of the arms as well as zones around the stomach and hips. The condition is a natural consequence of aging, as collagen and elastin synthesis, the two protein making the skin elastic, decreases. Muscles that support the skin also become weaker with age and let fat accumulate in different parts of the face and body causing sagging. Smoking and prolonged sun exposure can also contribute to the appearance of loose skin. Another factor is quick weight loss, especially when this is caused by a strict diet not combined with exercise.
