Lumenis ResurFX is a fractionated non-ablative technology for skin rejuvenation and restoration. It is used to treat dyschromia, scars, stretch marks and wrinkles. High-precision laser microbeams create narrow, deep channels through tissue coagulation in the epidermis and dermis, stimulating collagen synthesis and skin repair naturally.
As part of the Lumenis Stellar M22 system, ResurFX is a non-ablative fractional laser, meaning that its laser energy is split into narrow beams that target a portion of the skin’s surface, leaving the rest intact to promote healing.
It will take several Lumenis ResurFX treatments to achieve the same results as more aggressive ablative lasers, but you’ll avoid the pain and weeks of flaking, tearing, and crusting that accompany treatment with Er:YAG or CO2 lasers.
Lumenis ResurFX non-ablative resurfacing uses a wavelength of 1565 nm to be extremely effective and at the same time non-ablative!
Just like the Er:YAG laser, which has a wavelength of 2940 nm, and the CO2 laser, which has a wavelength of 10,600 nm, the ResurFX wavelength of 1565 nm interacts with water in the skin without affecting the melanin in the surface layer and the hemoglobin in the blood vessels in depth. The specific wavelength allows ResurFX’s laser beam to be extremely thin and penetrate the deep layers of the skin without damaging its surface. Thus, the procedure is extremely effective yet non-ablative.
State-of-the-art CoolScan™ technology for non-consistent area scanning and contact cooling of non-ablative resurfacing with Lumenis ResurFX enhance patient comfort. The operator has the ability to select over 600 combinations of treatment area shape, size and density, whether it is a single lesion or an entire face.
The Lumenis® ResurFX™ treatment works with your skin to stimulate deep collagen regeneration over a series of treatments. It typically takes about 3 treatments for there to be a visible improvement in skin texture. But after the first treatment, you may notice changes in pore size.
You may experience a sensation of heat or prickling on the skin, but the Lumenis ResurFX non-ablative resurfacing treatment is gentle and should not feel uncomfortable.
Some redness or swelling may occur immediately after treatment with Lumenis ResurFX non-ablative resurfacing depending on your customized treatment settings. The swelling may subside after a few hours, and the redness quickly the next day or over the next few days. Most patients are able to return to their daily activities the same day.
Usually, the doctor should advise you not to expose yourself to direct sun for several days after treatment and to use sunscreen.
Typically, results from non-ablative resurfacing with Lumenis ResurFX are achieved after 3-5 sessions spaced 4-5 weeks apart. However, you may continue to see improvements for up to six months after the procedure.
Lumenis® energy treatments are not suitable for everyone and carry some risks. ResurFX™ is not suitable when you have active infections, viral, fungal or bacterial diseases, inflammatory skin conditions or skin cancer.
