Excess body fat is a common issue in the zones of the stomach, buttocks, hips or top part of the arms. These are zones in which unwanted localized fat is hard to decrease with a healthy diet and physical exercises. The problem is very common and causes issues with self-esteem for many patients – men and women. In some cases it can cause health problems. The most common reasons for excess body fat are an unsuitable diet or sedentary lifestyle. Other factors such as sleep deprivation (less than 6h a night, causes a slower metabolism and higher insulin levels); medication (beta-blockers, oral contraception); air pollution. Some patients who have given up smoking also gain weight in the period in which they experience nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
